Tēnā Koutou Katoa and Welcome

The first few months of 2016 have flown by, with our team focused on spreading the word about Te Karaka Foundation in the lead up to our formal launch event.  We’ve been working hard to connect with all in our community who have a part to play in the Foundation’s success, in particular ensuring that accounting and legal firms throughout the region know about the Foundation and how we can help to realise their clients’ philanthropic goals.

We’ve captured some of the highlights of 2016 to date below. To find out more about what we’re up to in the coming months, visit our website, follow us on Facebook, or give us a call.  We’d love to discuss how we can help you, your organisation or your clients to leave a lasting legacy for the Taranaki community.
Foundation Launch
We are thrilled to announce we will be formally launching the Foundation on the evening of Thursday 2nd June with guest Sir Stephen Tindall. More details will follow but in the meantime save the date for this exciting event in philanthropy for Taranaki. We hope to see you there!

New Endowment Fund

It gives us great pleasure to announce the establishment of our most recent endowment, the Debbie McCallum Fund.  Debbie is a member of our trustee team and has established her fund to support Women's Golf throughout the region.  We are delighted to recognise Debbie as one of our Founding Donors and are confident that her contribution will have a lasting impact on the golfing community for generations to come.
Debbie is no stranger to the sport, having played representative golf for Taranaki since 1987.  She says: “It’s been a privilege to play for Taranaki and I’ve had a lot of fun over the years. I felt it was time to give something back to the Taranaki Golf Association and creating an endowment fund through the Foundation is an excellent way to do this. It’s great to know that my gift will provide regular funding for Women's Golf and help to ensure that others can enjoy the opportunities I’ve had”.

Founding Donors of Te Karaka Foundation

A major focus for the Foundation in 2016 is to continue to grow our Founding Donors membership. We are inviting Taranaki people and those with Taranaki at heart to come on board as Founding Donors of Te Karaka Foundation.
Our Founding Donors will be recognised for their support in the following ways -
  • Recognition at our public launch
  • Ongoing recognition as a Founding Donor on our website and in annual reports
  • A gift from the Foundation to recognise their contribution
  • Invitation to attend annual donor events and the Foundation’s AGM
  • Regular updates on their fund and the Foundation’s progress
Please share this opportunity with friends and family who you think might be interested in becoming a Founding Donor of Te Karaka Foundation.  For more information contact our Executive Team or visit our website.

Welcome Ross

A highlight of 2016 has been Ross Fulton joining our trustee team in February. Having recently retired from his role as General Manager of Sport Taranaki, Ross is very familiar with funding community outcomes.  He brings a wealth of knowledge to the Foundation team and we look forward to working with him to inspire and enable giving for a thriving Taranaki.
Reflecting on his appointment, Ross says “I feel it is a privilege to join the Te Karaka Foundation team, a group of Taranaki people who all have the vision to develop a sustainable model of supporting this region. I would like to use my skills and experience to complement those of the Foundation team, for the betterment of Taranaki now and for generations to come.”

Understanding Community Aspirations

As we build the Foundation’s funds we are mindful of the need to be continuously growing our knowledge about needs throughout Taranaki.  This includes gaining an understanding of other community groups’ aspirations and how we can support their work, rather than duplicating efforts.
We are grateful to those who have offered their expertise and will continue to consult with members of the community to understand how the Foundation can best serve our region.  This consultation will help to shape our distribution priorities and enable us to form a Distributions Advisory Committee to support our granting process in years to come.

Support for the Foundation

Over the past year, we’ve been incredibly grateful for the support of Lyall Bunn, Kim Dunlop-Roberts, Mel Cook, John Bourke and the team at HTL Insurance. HTL provide the Foundation with office space free of charge and also offer up their boardroom for our monthly trustee meetings. This contribution by HTL towards the Foundation has a huge impact on our budget and our Executive Officers who enjoy the quiet space to work and company of the HTL team.
HTL are very happy to be supporting the Foundation. As a Taranaki owned business they support many sporting, cultural and non-profit organisations around the region as they believe that this community involvement helps make Taranaki a great place to live for all, and is integral to their success and longevity offering quality insurance and investment advice.
